students learning?
Cell
phones are very rampant nowadays. Most students all over the world are walking
around with cell phones in their pockets, purses or even hoodies. Cell phones
are different from computer lab filled with computers because cellphones are
personal technology that is handy for students. Most students spend more time
learning about the features of the cell phone, how to operate properly and the
limitations of the phone. Regardless of the school’s policy, the reality in
most schools across the world is that we see students bringing and using cell phones
without realizing that this technology is essential for 21st century
students. Certainly, some students may use these devices for course-related
purposes, like taking notes; however, other may use their phones to communicate
with friends through social networking sites, text messages, or messaging apps.
Why not get these tools out in plain sight and use them for good where you can
surely benefit useful information out from it instead of using it in a bad way
that can waste your time.
Learning
through cell phones is termed as mobile learning. Learning on the cell phone
can extend beyond the walls of the school or the confines of a class period.
Today’s generation has grown accustomed to instant, updated information. Cell
phone my use as an alternative to textbooks. Many textbooks are not the most
relevant sources of information. Textbook can’t provide students with the
latest information like a mobile devices can. The generation born after the
year 1994 until 2004 is referred to as generation Z. this is the generation to
be born with complete technology. They don’t know life without technology.
Hence, they are often termed as digital natives and are extremely comfortable
with technology. Since many students belong to this generation, no one likes
lugging around with big textbooks. Most students preferred to use digital
textbooks that are constantly updated and often more vivid, helpful and
creative. Also, having textbooks on their cell phones keeps students more
organized and gives them easy access to their materials.
More
often, learning using phones makes learning goes beyond outside the classroom.
By allowing cellphones in school, it can expand learning outside of the
classroom. Students will not only have access to information during computer
lab time because they can easily look up information from everyone on campus.
Plus students love cell phones so they are likely to be excited about it and
continue learning outside of the school hours. Collaboration will increase as
students can use these devices as research tools during projects and group
works. Having those learning apps, digital textbooks, etc. on cell phones allows
them the students to get in extra studying and learning in during downtime.
Using cell phones, students could do research for English paper, or download an
app that provides extra information on one of the chemical elements in the
periodic table. It may use as learning aids many phone apps offer visual
representation of difficult- to- grasp subjects (like astronomy, science or
anatomy) that can assist visual learners and/or students who have dyslexia. The
use if cell phones can be educational because it may assist the students with
their homework.
Through
cell phones, learning becomes up- to- date. The old days of looking for
information in encyclopedias are long gone because having cell phones in the
classroom allows students instant access to the latest news, information,
statistics and others. Cell phone comes in handy when students need to look up
the definition of a word or even check an email for important updates.
Virtually every question they have is at their fingertips, that keeping them
connected with what’s going on around them and ensuring they are always well
inform with the most up- to- date information. It can be used in preparation
for a real world job. When they are already working, they can benefit from
having their cell phones on them. They can access their email. Call clients,
check inventory, read the news. Use software application and many more. Cell
phones can be used in case of emergency. If students forgot his homework or
calculator on the day of a calculus test, he could call his parents and ask
them to bring t to school without causing a scene. In some more serious
emergencies, like a school threat or shooting, cell phones could help students
connect with worried parents. That’s why students need to learn how to use
their cell phones responsibly. Cell phones users or the students can instantly
send data to the home or office, check for important email, use their cell
phones as PDA or calendar. It shows how cell phones become essential to the
students because it becomes efficient communication devices and it makes the
life of the students easier.
Therefore,
having cell phones is like having all the information in the world right in
your hands which is very beneficial to students. It is really helpful to the
students because it offers the students everything and anything without hassle.
If the students are really excited and engage in learning inside of the
classroom, they are likely to continue learning outside of the classroom and
they can do so with the help of cell phones. As cell phones are improved and
became simple to use, the importance of cell phones increased accordingly. It
becomes the necessity for people of all ages. So as a student, right before you
think of ignoring it, you will find it’s another use. That’s why, be a young
person or an old person, cell phones have successfully captured everybody’s
life and heart. This is the best way students can use a cell phones. Cell
phones should be used responsibly and integrate it to school as an educational
purposes. It should not use for something that will just results to nothing and
can’t help you. You should value the importance of cell phones in your life as
students. Lastly, it is remarkable how cell phones can transform education into
something more enthralling and engaging the students you could ever imagined.
